The Children’s and Young Persons Ward at the James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth

More than half of all the money raised over the years has gone to the local children’s hospital. We simply can’t stand the thought of children in pain and our annual donations help to distract the children from their current situation and allow them to just be kids and have fun.

Over the years we have given tons of DVD players, DVD’s, toys, books, colouring books, crayons, arts and crafts, learning games, baby mobiles, teddy bears, dolls, and much, much more. Shopping for these presents is one of Patrick and his family’s favourite things to do every year, and seeing the smiles on the children’s faces when we make the donation makes all the effort  worthwhile.

Local Basketball Initiatives in Great Yarmouth and Surrounding Areas

Over the years CCB has donated money, basketballs, and support to clubs in the area to help them to not only survive but to thrive. Patrick feels an obligation to give back to the clubs and community that helped to teach him about the sport, and wants children and young people in the area to grow up with the opportunity to do the same.

Patrick on why he started Clifftop Charity Basketball:

“I grew up in a time when basketball in England was not very popular at all, but fortunately for me I met a small amount of people who were passionate about the game and gave me an opportunity to play. Over a decade later and I could not be happier that I found basketball; it is my saving grace and has changed my life in so many wonderful ways. Not only has it given me great enjoyment playing the game and allowed me to achieve my dreams, but it has taught me so many important life lessons, such as the importance of teamwork, sacrifice, discipline, leadership and commitment, all of which I would not have learned if it was not for this great game.

I want to give children the opportunity to learn the same important life lessons I received by playing basketball. I believe it will help children and young adults to integrate better with their peers and to show them that competition is a part of life, so that when they grow up to be adults they will not be fearful about going for promotions, or chasing goals, but instead have the confidence to reach their full potential as a human being, and realize it is not where you come from that is important, but where you are going.

Now more than ever I think it is important for us all to encourage children to participate in sports and exercise, as the statistics about childhood obesity in this country are staggering and very frightening. If I can play a small part in promoting a healthy lifestyle through diet and exercise then that is my aim, and what better way than inspiring children and young adults to participate in the sport and lifestyle I have come to love. If I can do this while at the same time raising money for worthy local charities and causes, then that is just perfect. To me that’s what Clifftop Charity Basketball is all about; giving back and helping people through the sport of basketball.”

Clifftop Charity Basketball is an annual charity event that was founded in 2009, and is organized every year by professional basketball player, author and speaker Patrick Manifold.

The event is held every summer at the very same outdoor court that Patrick took his first ever shot as a 13 year old boy. Now every year hundreds of basketball enthusiasts from all over the county and further afield, join together to play the game they love for a good cause. CCB is currently in its 8th year.

The day is centered around a 3 on 3 tournament with up to 15 teams battling it out for the title of “Clifftop Charity Basketball CHAMPIONS” and the opportunity to take home the prestigious CCB Champions Trophy. As well as that there are also 3 point competitions, dunk contests and lots more fun things happening on the day.

There are 3 main reasons that CCB exists, and they all stem from Patrick’s passions:

1. To give back to the local basketball community by giving them a stage to showcase their ability in front of thousands of people.

2. To promote the sport of basketball and the benefits playing sport can have to living a healthy lifestyle.

3. To raise money for worthy local charities and causes

Although the day itself is always a lot of fun, the best thing about Clifftop Charity Basketball is the good it does in the community. Every penny of the proceeds from the day goes directly to our chosen charities and causes.
